New Florida requirement

Student athletes now need an EKG

Under Florida's Second Chance Act, starting with the 2026-27 school year, student athletes must complete at least one EKG heart screening before they can be cleared for FHSAA sports. An EKG is quick and painless and helps detect heart conditions that can cause sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes.

Book a physical + EKG ($70)
  • Who needs it: incoming 9th graders and students in grades 10-12 playing an FHSAA sport for the first time. Returning athletes are encouraged to get screened.
  • When: before athletic clearance. An EKG done on or after July 1, 2024 counts.
  • Paperwork: we complete your FHSAA physical and EKG forms at the visit.
  • If anything looks abnormal: we will guide next steps and a cardiology referral, since written medical clearance is required before your athlete can play.
